Two Chairs

Photography printed on linen and embroidered drawings,
2011

There is something about an empty chair that is haunting and hints at the idea of absent-ness.  These are two chairs at my cottage.  Somewhere where I can imagine my grandfather and father still sitting and looking out at the water, as they used to do.  Yet these are imaginations and memories.  They are there, but not there.  I have been exploring the use of mixed mediums to help convey the sense of space (time or distance) and memory.
